On Wednesday Stephen Harper made a statement saying Canada is committed to holding Iran to account and trying to curb their nuclear ambitions. Harper went on to say that his government would work with other governments to impose sanctions on Iran if needed. The growing fear among many Western nations is that Iran’s nuclear ambitions will destabilize an already factious Middle East. Furthermore it seems all major Western governments are taking the actions by Iran very seriously and responding accordingly. As well this is another example of the government’s change in tone on issues of international concern. Recently The conservative government Was lauded for its position against the human rights abuses in China.. As well the Harper government has been a strong advocate and supporter of the state of Israel . This change in outlook when it comes to foreign affairs is one of the substantial difference between the conservatives and previous Liberal’s administrations.
