Another Reason for Honouring Veterans on Remembrance Day

Here is a column that clearly outlines the proposal by Lisa MacLeod to make remembrance Day a statutory holiday in Ontario.[click here]

Local MPP Lisa MacLeod’s proposal to make Remembrance Day a statutory holiday is a good idea that is long overdue. Our veterans and their sacrifices are surely as worthy of celebration as Queen Victoria’s birthday or the Civic Holiday.

The fact that Ontario is one of only three provinces not now recognizing Remembrance Day with a statutory holiday is a pretty good indicator that our province is out of step. The situation is particularly discordant here with federal public servants getting the day off, but most other people having to work.

What MacLeod wants to do is put Remembrance Day on the same plane as Christmas and Easter. In other words, a real statutory holiday where everything shuts down. That would prevent it from becoming just another day off to catch up on shopping.

Don’t forget to vote in the poll this week. As well it turns out Ontario is truly out of line with the rest of Canada when it comes to honoring our veterans.

Don’t Ship the Canadian Brain Drain to China

In the age where intellectual capital is more important than ever the government should not be subsidizing students who might or might not contribute to the Canadian mosaic. Instead of  just subsidizing left and right the Liberal government should ask themselves what makes the education system out west so attractive and successful. [Click here]

Petition To Keep Ontario Dollars For Ontario Students

As a former university student in Ontario I know university can be a stressful place without the added pressures of knowing  if or when you will qualify for student loans. This subsidy of foreign students is beyond the pale and a papier-mâché solution to a much larger funding formula problem. Ontario Liberals  have to own up to their own mismanagement and put Ontario students first.

Subsidies Won’t Work

This week the Ontario government pledged to invest over $30 million in foreign students. The fact that should not be forgotten is that this very same Liberal government presided over massive cutbacks in quality to many post secondary institutions. As a result the students are not receiving the same quality of education they once were because universities have had to cut courses and programs in the ever-changing economics of higher education.

Foreign students win while Ontario students get left behind. McGuinty has clearly lost touch,”

“While Ontario families struggle to pay for school, electricity, auto insurance and sales hikes, the McGuinty Government is focussed on paying the tuition of students who don’t even live in this country, let alone this province.”

I Have Not Yet Begun To Fight

Now that’s real tenacity.
from big government

On September 23, 1779 in the midst of one of the bloodiest engagements in naval history, John Paul Jones was struggling against the forty-four gun Royal Navy frigate Serapis and although his own vessel was burning and sinking, Jones would not accept the British demand for surrender.  Instead Jones declared, “I have not yet begun to fight.” Little more than three hours later, the Serapis surrendered and Jones took command.
