This is still a shocking story and I wholeheartedly support Mrs. Harper and her comments.
From Montréal Gazette
“We urge you to take a progressive step towards improving the lives of Iranian women, mothers, daughters and sisters by unconditionally releasing Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani,”
“In Canada, women enjoy all the same benefits, rights and freedoms as men. But with these rights also comes responsibilities; and as such we are morally obligated to speak out publicly in defence of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and indeed all women in Iran.”
Another in a long line of golden examples that not all countries share a the same ideals on issues of human rights and freedoms.
The youth who were enthralled with Obama in 2008 state away from the polls in droves last night like a spurned lover. It turns out young people are more disillusioned than ever with the political process and their own prospects in Obama’s America. As well when the big daddy of big government himself Obama is not on the ballot they rather not get up off the couch and vote at all.
One of the reasons why the youth probably feel so depressed about the political landscape, is that many of the cultural icons of Comedy Central had now crust over into the mainstream and have become standard-bearers for the status quo. Not even 1000 liberal rallies for sanity, would make up for the sugar high disappointment of the first two years of the Obama administration in the eyes of many voters in the United States.
