It Started With Meech Lake

Former Liberal insider starts the blame Brian Mulroney campaign.

According to Jeffrey, it was Mulroney’s attempts to bring Quebec into the constitutional fold and the Meech Lake accord that really did the Liberals in, created a “perfect storm” and instigated caucus division — not based on personalities, but rather on the principles of federalism.

“That pretty much ripped the party asunder,” Jeffrey said, referring to the Meech Lake accord. The academic and former Liberal insider writes that the ordeal is blamed by some for the collapse of the Progressive Conservative Party, but few recognize the impact it had on what was once called Canada’s “natural governing party.”

“Nobody really understands how badly it affected the Liberal party,” she said in an interview. Jeffrey, who worked on Parliament Hill during John Turner’s term as leader of the Liberals, said disagreement over Meech Lake exposed a new cleavage that cut across the traditional divide between business and social Liberals.

A day after his government was accused of infringing on civil liberties by Ontario’s ombudsman. Premier Dalton McGuinty admitted he failed in striking a balance between individual freedom and security during the G. 20 summit in Toronto. Can we trust a premier who is so contrite with such a fundamental issue as civil liberties. How many more gaffes can we allow this government to make?

Liam Neeson Suffered From A Case of Political Correctness

Earlier this week Liam Neeson entered the lions den of criticism by opening up the interpretation of Aslan to include Mohammed and Buddha.

Ahead of the release of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader next Thursday, Neeson said: ‘Aslan symbolises a Christ-like figure but he also symbolises for me Mohammed, Buddha and all the great spiritual leaders and prophets over the centuries.

Although I’m no Christian apologist, you would have to be blind or ignorant to miss the clear connection between Christianity in the Narnia tales. Mr. Neeson’s comments have alienated the very fans that the movie hoped to attract. This touch of bad publicity does not bode well for the movie’s box office.
