  • Tory majority mandate one year later

What a difference a year makes, a year ago today the conservative party of Canada finally attained their long-sought majority mandate from Canadians. The conservatives were quick to act on several long-standing promises such as

    • Abolishing the gun registry
    • phasing out public subsidy for political parties
    • ending the wheat board monopoly

Now it looks like the government is shifting its priorities to focusing on the economy for the foreseeable future. Personally, I would love to see more reigning in of government spending  but only time will tell.Overall the first year of majority has been pretty productive for the Tories.

  • A Night of Steynamite in Toronto

Tonight the Toronto convention center should be rocking as the one-man global content provider Mark Steyn brings his unique brand of informative insight on current events and entertainment to the big smoke. Recently, I had the chance to finish Steyn latest book after America. It  left me with a simultaneous sense of dread and amusement.

Also no one can quite explain the integral issues of freedom of speech and individual liberty quite like he can. If you’re in the GTA  tonight and tickets are still available,  Steyn is definitely worth checking out.

  • Sun News Answers its Critics

Sun News is finally counter punching against one of its critics the Globe and Mail’s  John Doyle.

As I recall, BC blue was the first Blogging Tory to point out Mr. Doyle’s proclivity to nonsensically criticize those that he disagreed with.

Moreover, Sun news is a challenge to the monolithic media culture that has developed in Canada. When consumers in the marketplace of ideas only have a choice between left, center left, and perhaps, center that is bad for public discourse in any country.
